Indivisible Smith County Book Club

Please join Indivisible Smith County for our next book club meeting on Thursday, July 9th from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Village Creamery in Tyler Bergfeld Center. We meet the second Thursday of each month.

For this meeting, we will be discussing the classic 1960 novel: "To Kill A Mockingbird." Our August book will be "The Frozen River" by Ariel Lawhon.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is set in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great Depression, and narrated by a young girl named Scout Finch. The story follows Scout, her brother Jem, and their widowed father, Atticus Finch, a lawyer who defends a Black man, Tom Robinson, falsely accused of raping a white woman, exposing the town's deep-seated racism and prejudice. The novel explores themes of justice, innocence, and empathy.

If you don't manage to read it but are interested in the discussion, you are still welcome :-).

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Indivisible Smith County Monthly General Meeting

Join us in Tyler the first Monday of each month. Doors open at 6 pm for refreshments and socializing and the meeting is from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Each month we will discuss recent activities and developments as well as plan ahead. This month we will hear from Michelle Allcon, the Elections Administrator for Tyler, and discuss election information and voter registration.

The most powerful tool we have isn't a TV ad — it's you, at a doorstep, talking to a neighbor. Neighbor to Neighbor is Indivisible Smith County's grassroots push to make sure every eligible voter near you knows how, when, and where to vote in 2026 — and that their vote counts. No experience needed. Just a few hours and a willingness to show up for your community.

We meet at the Unitarian Fellowship, 1629 Old Omen Road in Tyler. NOTE: We will have September's meeting on Monday, August 31, because September 7 is Labor Day.

Indivisible Smith County's monthly general meeting is an opportunity for you to learn what is going on, help us plan, and find community. On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston while driving a work van with his crew. On July 13, ICE fatally shot 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine — his wife and toddler forced to witness his murder.

Both men were beloved members of their communities, killed on their way to work.

Join us to show your support for them and other immigrants murdered and treated unjustly by ICE.

We will be holding signs along the screened walkway spanning Hawkins Parkway near Longview high school.

We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Cuando Se Quiere, Se Puede: An Informational On How To Support Undocumented Students in Texas

Since the repeal of the Texas Dream Act back in June 2025, undocumented students in the state have been left to grapple with massive tuition bills, the revoke of scholarships, and withdrawing from college either temporarily - or permanently.

A year later, there are still questions left unclear. This informational aims to inform our students and community at-large on ongoing litigation updates of the Texas Dream Act, how universities/colleges enforce the law, the effects of the repeal, and how all of US can contribute to supporting our students to reach their career goals and dreams.

Joining us will be Briana Ruiz, a College Advisor from the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex for a Q&A segment.

Cuando Se Quiere, Se Puede is a Spanish proverb that translates to "Where there is a will, there is a way." In reference to the determination, bravery, and persistence our undocumented students demonstrate in spite of institutional barriers.
