“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
Founded in 2017, Indivisible Smith County is a local organization aligned with Indivisible, a nationwide grassroots movement dedicated to stopping the rise of authoritarianism, defeating the right-wing agenda, and building an inclusive democracy.
At Indivisible Smith County, our goal is to help empower and organize local volunteers to hold members of Congress accountable, elect progressive leaders, and advance bold policies for a government that serves all people. We understand that democracy is not a spectator sport and only works when everyday people organize, show up, and hold those in power accountable.
When you join Indivisible Smith County, you join a movement, a volunteer-led organizing team of leaders and members who show up and do things together. We believe that ordinary citizens, working together, can stop the rise of authoritarianism, hold leaders accountable, and defend democracy. We maintain a firm commitment to nonviolence and to being accountable to the people in our community. This commitment is a core principle for all of our activities, peaceful protests, organizing, and supporting local advocacy efforts. Participants are expected to proactively de-escalate potential confrontations. Indivisible views nonviolence as a source of strength that maintains moral legitimacy and builds broad-based participation.
We oppose all forms of hatred, racism, misogyny, bigotry, nationalism, LGBTQ+ discrimination, and other forms of discrimination. We also reject all forms of political violence, intimidation, and hate from any source or target.
Action by action, day by day, Indivisible groups are remaking our Democracy, and showing up as progressives in deep red East Texas.
As members of Indivisible Smith County, we agree to:
